A Successful Show

Carnival Prince and PrincessAgain the weather forecast served up grim warnings of heavy rain, yet the morning was dry and pleasant and the rain when it did arrive around 1:30 was not too heavy. All of you who braved the rain and stayed were rewarded with pleasant warm sunshine when the sun finally broke through at 3pm.

Flowers and Produce Show entries were down on last year. We attribute a lot of this to the strange weather we have had this year. The dry spring and then cold June combined to make gardening a challenge and many popular classes were significantly reduced due to lack of produce. Those of you who did have flowers and veg still brought forth a fine display and there was an equally impressive display of crafts. The Children's craft competition was well supported with some beautiful entries in the miniature garden and Mobile classes. We are pleased that you love to enter your produce in the show as it is one of the main reasons for having the show. Well done everyone and we hope you'll enter again next year.

We had a slightly reduced schedule in the arena this year, but the new innovation to bring the Carnival into the Arena was a great success and gave the show a flying start. Fine shows by the K9 Dog Dancing Team and Adams Axemen were strongly supported and enjoyed by many people despite the rain early on. The Tug of War was a great success with 4 teams, the honours finally going to the Cross Keys although they were defeated by a somewhat suspect 'Ladies' Invitational team after the final. Elsewhere the Mooncarrot puppets and Circus skills gave a lovely performance to crowds of children and the Cheesehouse Band entertained us till late in the afternoon with an excellent selection of classic covers to suit all tastes.

Our thanks to all the residents of Wanborough and surrounding villages for braving the weather again and attending in large numbers. We rely on your support in order to stage the show year on year. Without you our fine tradition would be lost. We don't have the exact details yet for all parts of the show but when we get the info we will post a full write-up here.

See you all next year.
