After two Summer Shows badly affected by weather and last year’s cancelled June Horse & Dog Show, it’s pleasing to be able to report a much more successful year all round.

Entries for Horticultural and Children’s classes were a record (see report below). The arena displays, including the astonishing Bruce Airhead, were really entertaining and the charity stands were well supported. The only disappointment for us was the Tug-of-War, with only 2 pubs represented. This is normally the exciting finale to the show; there must be more regulars willing to pull for the honour of their favourite watering hole! The Wanborough Show Society is a non-commercial & non-profit organisation dedicated to running the best possible show we can for the residents of Wanborough, Liddington, Hinton Parva and Bishopstone. As such, the committee members would be liable for any debts incurred by the Society. This year’s shows combined cost nearly £17,000 to stage. To protect ourselves and to ensure that we can run future shows, we maintain a financial reserve. The last 2 years have depleted that reserve significantly, so we’re pleased that this year’s season has allowed us to restore the reserve to a more adequate level.

It has also given us sufficient surplus to be able to make our customary contributions to ‘The Lyden Magazine’ and ‘Village News’, this year £125 each. In addition we will also be making a contribution of £250 to the Wanborough Village Hall repair fund.
